Moving can be a pain! Our goal is to make your moving and storage experience
as simple as possible. We promise to make it as simple as possible for you.
Follow these tips to help make your move more simple.
Storage Tips:
-
When storing lawn and garden equipment all fluids should be drained
to prevent corrosion.
-
If you have empty space in a box use packing paper to fill in the
open areas.
-
Use plastic covers for mattresses, sofa’s, loveseats and chairs.
-
When storing your things in Florida it is important to place a
product in your storage unit to prevent humidity buildup. We recommend
DampRid. Ask your Store Manager for details.
-
Always use a high quality lock on your storage unit. We sell a
variety of locks in our offices, ask your store manager for our Secure
Disc Lock.
-
Items that have removable legs should be broken down to save space.
-
All wood, leather, or cloth items should be covered with plastic
covers to prevent scratching, dents, or damage during your move.
-
The easiest way to store the hanging clothes in your closet is with
a wardrobe box. This box allows you to hang all your clothing in a
portable box so that when you take the items out they are in the same
condition as when you put them in the box. All of our locations sell
wardrobe boxes.
-
Use the inside of your appliances to store items during the move.
-
Be sure to label all boxes and place the labeled side of the box in
a visible place within the storage unit.
-
Business files should be stacked to form isles…this will allow you
to easily and quickly access your files when they are needed.
-
Make sure all boxes are filled to insure that they do not get
crushed.
-
Choose a reputable storage facility, Choose Handy Storage.
Moving Tips:
-
Submit a change of address form to the following agencies: Post
Office, Your Bank, IRS, and Credit Card Companies.
-
Have all school and medical records transferred. We recommend that
you keep copies with you during your move.
-
Make sure all belongings are covered by insurance. If you are using
a mover ask for detailed information on their insurance coverage.
-
Cancel your utilities at your old home.
-
Setup utilities at your new home before you arrive. Remember: Water,
Sewer, Electric, Cable, Internet, Phone, Security System.
-
Place baking soda inside of the refrigerator and the freezer before
the move.
-
Check on automobile licensing in your new location.
-
Hire a reputable mover, ask for references. A good mover specializes
in moving, not storage…a good storage company focuses on storage, not
moving. Choose separate moving and storage companies.
