We receive a lot of questions regarding self storage and beginning your storage experience with Handy Storage. Below, we have listed some of the most frequent questions that we run into. Q: What size space do I need?A: The amount of space that you need depends on the things that you will be storing. Handy Storage offers a wide variety of sizes at our locations to make sure that you can choose a unit that is closest to the space that you need, so you can save money. If you are unsure of the space required for your belongings, Handy Storage can show you various options. Be sure to make an appointment or come by one of our local offices so we can show you available sizes. Also, if you run out of space while moving your items in, we will upgrade you and waive the transfer fee. Speak to a Handy Storage representative for more details.
Q: Do I have to sign a long term contract?A: All of our locations provide customers with a month-to-month agreement and lease. When you are no longer in need of the storage that you rent from us, simply notify our office and we will process the closing of your account. Our facilities do not require any long term contracts or agreement to store items.
Q: What type of security is there at the property?A: Handy Storage locations have plenty of security options for our customers, so you can feel at ease when storing at one of our facilities throughout South Florida. Handy Storage locations have resident managers who live on-site. Additionally, our security amenities include security cameras, fully fenced facilities and the use of your personal lock at the storage unit door for accessing your belongings. Each customer is given a unit number and passcode for entering and exiting our properties through the access control system, keeping any unauthorized people from entering the property. Gate operation hours are also limited to keep our properties secured during the evening hours. Gate access hours at all Handy Storage locations are from 6:00AM – 9:00PM ET, 365 days a year.
Q: Do you provide a lock?A: Our office locations have locks for sale, if you do not have one at the time of renting your storage unit. You are also permitted to provide your own lock if you have one. We allow for both key and combination locks at our facilities, so feel free to bring one with you when signing your storage unit lease and moving your items into your new storage unit.
Q: Do you offer move-in specials?A: Absolutely! Handy Storage provides promotions on most of our storage units and vehicle parking spaces. Promotions differ based on availability of the size requested and market rates. Future customers can reference our reservation system online for posted online promotions and call us at 754-300-1453 at anytime, in order to speak to a Handy Storage self-storage representative for the latest promotions on available storage units.
Q: What are your hours of operation?A: Handy Storage locations are open seven days a week, excluding posted holidays. Our office operation times are 9:00AM – 6:00PM (ET) Monday – Saturday and 10:00AM – 4:00PM (ET) on Sundays. Gate operation hours are different from our office operation hours. Gate access hours are 365 days a year between 6:00AM – 9:00PM (ET).
Q: Do I have after hours access?A: All locations provide gate access hours between 6:00AM (ET) – 9:00PM (ET), 365 days a year. If you require 24 hour access, this must be approved by a Handy Storage manager and a fee is assessed monthly for this access. We do authorize after hours or 24 hour access on a case by case basis, so please inform us if you require the 24 hour access so we can process your application.
Q: What methods of payment do you accept and how can I pay my bill?A: Methods of payment include cash, check, money order, cashier check or credit card. We accept all major credit cards including American Express, Visa, Master Card and Discover. We offer our customers multiple methods of processing payments including automatic payment, online payment, over the phone with a credit card, in-person payments at our offices and drop boxes at our office locations for after hour payments.
Q: Do I need Insurance?A: We do not require insurance to storage your items at Handy Storage. However, while your things are at our facilities, they are not covered by Handy Storage for loss or damage. It is recommended that you obtain coverage through our Specialty Self Storage Insurance Provider (Ask you Store Manager for Details), or that you add coverage through your homeowners or renters policy.
Q: What is the deposit charge?A: Handy Storage does not charge a deposit for reserving storage units or parking at our facilities. At the time of processing your lease paperwork, we do charge a small, one time, administrative fee of $20.00.
Q: What items cannot be stored?A: Our customers may not store any materials that are hazardous, combustible, or dangerous to others. Additionally, no food or perishable items may be stored. Our knowledgeable property managers will be happy to answer your specific questions on what can be stored. Examples of items that may not be stored are: paint or paint products, fireworks, food, gasoline, or any ammunition.
Q: Is there pest control at the storage facility?A: All of our units are thoroughly cleaned and treated before and after each tenant uses the space. This treatment includes treating the storage unit for pests.
Q: Do you accept deliveries to the storage unit?A: We will gladly sign for your package deliveries from any carrier that will deliver them to your storage unit.
Q: Can I store a vehicle?A: Yes. We offer both outside and interior parking spaces that can accommodate most vehicles, trailers, boats, and wave runners. You must be the registered owner of the vehicle, it must be running, and you must show registration and insurance information at the time of rental.
Q: Do you pay referral fees?A: Yes. We offer our existing tenants a $50.00 referral discount for each new customer that they refer to us who rents a unit.
